Parenting can be enjoyable

Is it hard to parent your kid's BIG emotions while you're having your own BIG emotions?

✔️Do you want to accept your kid’s emotions, without allowing for misbehavior?

✔️Do you want to raise responsible kids?

✔️Do you want to be on the same page as your partner?

If you answered YES to any of these... keep reading.

Investing NOW in your parenting journey is going to serve your family for generations.

If you keep doing what you’re doing, the unhealthy cycle will continue.

Your teens will be able to cope with big feelings.

Your future grandkids will feel supported when feeling difficult emotions.

Your adults will be able to set healthy boundaries.

One parent told me,

"I never did this when my kids were little and now I have a 9yr old and 8yr old that struggle to regulate themselves. I am seeing a significant change since taking these steps and am grateful to have these tools for my toddler."

I have loved my own journey, especially in the last year to be a more intentional Emotionally Healthy Parent.

Big emotions have come up and I’m showing up in a way that I’m so much more proud of.

One day we were playing at the canal, and Charlie threw a rock out of frustration. And hit his sister in the head. Blood. Tears. And you guessed it, a ride to Instacare… all of us dripping wet and three-month-old baby in tow.

Now I could’ve handled this so many ways. Yelling, hauling him off to the car, grounding him from screens.

But instead, I let the emotions do the teaching. I focused on my relationship over compliance, and it led to cooperation and an understanding of what he did wrong and how he could do it differently.

I was feeling really angry, stressed, embarrassed.

But as we were walking to the car, I caught myself. And realized I was doing everything I needed to for Maelie’s emotions. But, now I have to regulate myself to help Charlie’s.

Once emotions started to settle, I validated them a little more and set a very firm boundary. “We NEVER EVER throw rocks at people. Never. It’s ok to be angry. It’s not ok to throw rocks. So what can we do when we are feeling angry instead?

We gotta think of some other ways to calm down our bodies!”

We settled on the plan, come get mom to help you calm down when you’re angry. Cuz breathing and taking space didn’t feel good to him at this time.

And then we made it right with sis.

“You hurt Maelie. And even if you didn’t mean to hurt her, it happened. And now it’s our job to see what she needs to feel better”

Ugh. Life lessons are so hard to learn. But I’m feeling very grateful that this learning moment happened for all three of us and we grew!

These Strategies are Working for REAL Families, Like YOU!

I just have to say thank you for all your great words! I used to be pro-spanking and just making my kids do what I say and get mad with the outbursts but I have really been trying your suggestions and they do work!!! This morning my 2 yr old had a meltdown about getting dressed and going to daycare and right when I was about to get frustrated I sat down picked him up and held him and talked to him softly about how he was sad. Instantly he settled down we were able to get dressed and out the door and no one was frustrated! Thank you so much, you’re amazing!

I was amazed at how quickly he started to calm down because I was communicating to him that I was hearing him and his emotions were OK! By the time we walked back the receptionist was in tears and told me “that was beautiful to watch”

A few months ago I would have probably told him to be tough and stop crying. As I’ve started implementing these strategies I’ve been called “soft” and “a pushover” but today was just a reminder that this is right!

I feel that it is such a Christlike way to parent and even though I have a LONG ways to go. I walked away from that experience (that would usually embarrass, frustrate and emotionally drain me) loving being a parent and having so much love for my little guy who was so brave even through all the tears.
